Roadmap

Where Little Harness goes after the alpha — direction, not shipped versions.

Little Harness: published on npm as little-harness@0.2.0-alpha.0 (2026-10-05). Sections labeled UNRELEASED describe source-only changes. Release status

Little Harness ships today as 0.2.0-alpha.0 (these docs keep the v0.1.0-alpha URL path): a local-first agent runtime with isolated sessions, artifacts, traces, skills, Persistent Dirs, chat connectors, and a just-bash command substrate that runs in a subprocess sandbox by default. This page describes the intended direction after alpha. It is framing for where the SDK is headed, not a list of released versions — treat everything here as subject to change.

Beta polish

The near-term focus is hardening the alpha developer experience: steadier SDK surfaces, sharper error messages, and refinement of the host and runtime adapter boundaries so that swapping the sandbox or session log stays a one-line change. The public API shape from alpha should carry forward with as few breaking changes as possible.

Production durability

Alpha durability is proven through the file-backed and remote session logs (fileSessionLog, remoteSessionLog over startSessionLogServer) and the subprocess execution adapter; there is no built-in remote execution adapter yet — a remote or container sandbox plugs in as a custom sandbox factory or as the nextTier of tieredSandbox. The next step is making crash-safe, resumable runs a first-class production story: durable session logs behind real stores, replay that survives process restarts across machines, and clear operational guidance for retrying failed Persistent Dir commits.

High-throughput fan-out

The alpha runs a single process against a Local Host. A later direction is scale-out execution — coordinating many stateless harness processes through the durable orchestration ledgers, so batch and fan-out workloads can run wide without changing the developer-facing configuration object.

Managed and enterprise hosting

The host contract is deliberately abstract so that the same createHarness config can target Local Host today and a managed or self-hosted control plane later. Post-alpha work explores hosted execution pools, stronger multi-tenant isolation, and the policy, audit, and capability controls that enterprise deployments need — without forcing those decisions into a developer's first agent.

What is not on this page

Anything documented elsewhere as shipped is shipped. Where a reference page marks a shape as proposed (for example, the object-store and lazy storage adapters), that is a roadmap item expressed at the API level, not a current capability.
