Visual Builders Vs Little Harness
How Dify, Flowise, Langflow, n8n, and Zapier Agents compare with Little Harness.
Little Harness: published on npm as little-harness@0.2.0-alpha.0 (2026-10-05). Sections labeled UNRELEASED describe source-only changes. Release status
Visual builders and automation platforms are real alternatives when the goal is to create an AI app quickly without owning every code path.
Little Harness is for the opposite posture: keep the host app as the product control plane, but outsource the annoying harness runtime details.
Use Visual Builders When
- non-developers need to assemble agents or workflows
- visual graph editing is more important than code-level ownership
- built-in RAG, tool catalogs, integrations, and deployment matter
- the team wants logs and operations inside the builder platform
Use Little Harness When
- the agent should live inside an existing product codebase
- auth, storage, tenancy, UI, and deployment should stay in the host app
- the developer wants a library, not a platform workspace
- files, artifacts, skills, and Persistent Dirs should be runtime primitives
Platform Notes
| Platform | Strongest Fit | Little Harness Difference |
|---|---|---|
| Dify | Low-code AI apps, agents, RAG, workflows, APIs, plugins. | Dify is the app/control plane; Little Harness embeds into yours. |
| Flowise | Visual AI agents, Chatflows, Agentflows, document stores, tracing integrations. | Flowise centers the graph and server; Little Harness centers the host app. |
| Langflow | Python component graph for agents, MCP, vector stores, files, traces. | Langflow is visual Python graph authoring; Little Harness is TS-friendly runtime API. |
| n8n | Event automation, app integrations, AI Agent nodes, execution history. | n8n is automation catalog-first; Little Harness is session runtime-first. |
| Zapier Agents | Hosted natural-language business automation over Zapier's app ecosystem. | Zapier optimizes non-developer automation; Little Harness optimizes developer embedding. |
